What did you harvest today?

Today I gather 4 red plum tomatoes but the plant is looking sad. I do have a new plant coming along that is suppose to be a \"winter tomato.\" I also picked the end of my sweet green bell peppers, two small green and 3 red. When left to turn red bell peppers are very sweet and beautiful mixed in salad or other dishes.

I'm going down to Walter Andersen's tomorrow and buying some baba berries! I need the late harvest of those tasty morsels! I LOVE bare root season!

Plant and feed those bababerries just like roses -- but of course without the toxic pesticides. At Walter Andersen's, get a bag of Ada Perry's Rose food and start them out with that. The directions on the bag are great. Also mulch heavily with a mixture that is 3/4 of usual mulch and 1/4 peat. After they start growing, start them on a few tablespoons of Gro-Power Flower & Bloom 3-12-12 and increase by that same amount monthly until you reach one cup per plant per month. Follow through with the twice-yearly feedings of Ada Perry's. You can stop feeding in October and start again in March or April. Water them twice per week in the summer and once per week other times. You can skip 5 to 7 days watering after any day it rains a 1/4 inch or more. Put the fertilizer where the water will hit it.

I've never had problems with pests on these plants. A few holes in leaves and that's about it. The stems are thick with slender hair-like thorns and so rodents and rabbits stay away too. However, if your neighbors find out about them you might need some serious counter-measures to keep them from coming over the fence!

Swiss chard, and wonderful Satsuma Tangerines. Those BaBa Berries sound wonderful, I might have to find a place for them.
