My fern is dying and I don't know why!!!

I have an East Indian Holly Fern. I planted it in between my elephant ears. The elephant ears are doing fine, but the fern is whithering away. The leaves are turning brown and dry and falling off.
I had it in a container for a while before I transplanted it and it was doing fine. I was thinking about putting it back in a container. Any suggestions?

Cindy, i don't know if you still need help but if you still do i must ask:
How much light does it receive?
How much water?
What are the temperatures there currently?
etc, etc.

It is in almost complete shade as are the elehpant ears. I try to water them about every other day. The fern is built up a little more than the elephant ears and I thought that maybe I was watering it too much so I don't give it as much water as I do the elephant ears. It's still not doing well and even looks worse. The temps here have been unsually high. Since the beginning of June at least 1/2 or more of the days have been in the 100's. We live in the Dallas area and the average humidity is about 70%.

Hmmmm, it possibly might be trying to go dormant? (sweet denial!)
i'm not sure what you could do Cindy. I read that they're slow growing... so maybe it'll bounce back when the temps cool down. For now, try to keep it moist and remember if the colocasia are too close they're steal most of the water from it

They are all separated by about 1 1/2 - 2 feet. Should I go ahead and cut off the dead parts?

Hmmmmm, they're separated far enough i believe. Yes, you can trim some of the dead foliage back... just leave any green fronds: the plant will need those to recover faster
And you might would like to know... my ferns never look great in the summer, they only look garden magazine-worthy for a few months until our hot, dry summers make them look more rough than Paris Hilton with a hangover
