Hunkering down for the big blow

Today in my garden I logged in to The Mulch. The stories of warm California springtime and Southwest gardens lighten up my grey day. This morning I tiptoed out to visit my small seedlings growing under lamps and watched outside the window where the 30 mile an hour winds are driving artic air and a new blizzard to my area. Yesterday was 45 degrees and sunshine. I walked around the edges of my gardens and spotted tulips, hyacinth and daffodils pushing up out of the hardened spring dirt. Today they will be covered in a new blanket of 8 - 14 inches of snow. They keep changing the snowfall prediction! The Highway Dept. is advising no travel for most of the state from noon today through tomorrow night. I will stay here near the artificial glow of my computer monitor and watch my littlest plants straining to reach the pretend sunshine illuminating from a fluorescent bulb.
Ecc. 3:1 "There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven…" Right now is my time to wait patiently.

I feel for you! You must really appreciate spring and summer when they arrive...I'm sure you are settled with family in South Dakota, but you might consider buying a small house in San Diego for retirement purposes so you can at least get away for a few months each year! It is glorious here...I'm going to take photos today and post them in my gallery if you'd like to peak. I'm originally from Pittsburgh, Pa. and although it's not as cold as SD, it was a good 6 months of winter every year. My mother had fantastic roses every spring (I read your profile) which she covered with 3 to 4 inches of dirt after cutting the plant way down. Good luck!
