Which variety of pomegranate should I choose?

I want to plant a pomegranate bush, but I'm a bit overwhelmed by all the varieties. I'm in La Mesa/Spring Valley. There used to be a wonderful, huge old bush up the street, but new neighbors moved in and tore it out. I wish I had caught them in time and snagged it. It makes me sick when plants go to waste. I'd rather not go with a dwarf variety. Any helpful hints?

I live near the coast and I have the variety 'Wonderful' which my family really likes, but I keep hearing 'Wonderful' needs more heat to really get sweet, so maybe it would work great in your area.
I've also heard there's a non staining variety called 'eversweet' which sounds pretty cool.
My suggestion is to take your time and pick the right variety, they grow great in your area, so it's better to take a little time and pick the right one.

I like "Wonderful" too. I live by the coast and we still get sweet fruit. But it has a little tartness that I really like. Of course some of the varieties like the HUGE "Ambrosia" sound interesting. Is it an American introduction or is it the legendary Iranian variety "Saveh" under a different name?

And I understand that Dave Wilson is now selling some of the varieties that Dr Levin preserved at Garrygala in Turkmenistan. I'd love to try the "Parfyanka" and "Gissarskii" if I knew what names Dave Wilson was selling them under. Does anybody know?
