Plant Combinations

One of the nicest planting combinations I've seen this year was at Linn's Restaurant in Cambria. It was a long fenceline border of Tagetes lemmonii (Copper Canyon Daisy amongst other common names for it) and salvia leucantha (Mexican Bush Sage).The combo of the golden yellow and the vivid purple was spectacular and the border was loaded with bees and butterflies. I grow both but hadn't thought of putting them together, but I sure am now.
I'd be interested in hearing of combinations that others have used or seen that are really great.

In this weeks San Diego UT they had an article about what to do in May, and there was a photo of asclepias currasiva planted around verbena bonariansis at Buena Creek Gardens and I would have never thought of that, but wow it looked great! looked like a butterfly buffet!

Hey, that does sound nice!I started out some years ago with the pinks, purples, etc....then someone gave me a Golden Showers rose and suddenly I saw how yellow livened things up. Next I added yellow asclepias. I have bonariensis and the asclepias curassavica, so I think I'll try that. I'm getting more adventurous with color combos. I originally had asclepias tuberosa and think I may go back to that. I think it's tougher than the curassavica. I've had yellow curassavica grouped along a walk in whiksey barrels for the monarchs and they're kinda going belly up on me this year.I sowed a lot of orange curassavica and they're still in pots and seeming to be having a hard time of it with the aphids and all and somewhere this week I read that the curassavica has more problems with fungal issues. Buena Creek Gardens is one of my favorite places to be and yes, the new hummer-butterfly garden is wonderful. It's given me the idea to pack a variety of plants closer together for that same effect.

I have a rather nice size flowerbed gets plenty of light not harsh sun and protected from the harsh cold can Gardenias, Geraniums, Hydrangeas, Hibiscus, and Camellias be planted in the same flowerbed?
