what to plant? was created by dsbsm111
[Can anyone give me an idea of what I could plant in a small area that gets some morning and afternoon sun. I need to put something next to the fence that I can keep at 6 to 7 ft and doesn't get real wide. It's actually to keep the neighbors from seeing into my living room.....so it would help if it was pretty too. Thanks for any suggestions anyone might have.....and it would help for you to know that I am in San Marcos ........color=#800080][/color]

Post edited by: dsbsm111, at: 2007/04/30 20:11

Have you thought about canna? it has so many different colors. I don't know if it will get enough sun, but it will be nice for you to look at from your living room window and you could keep it against the fence

what about Toyon? I have one by the coast in morning sun and it does great, and it's not to hard to keep the size you're looking for AND the birds love the red berries in winter.
Here's a link to it in the plant encyclopedia

Some of the newer cultivars of Pittosporum tenuifolium are really beautiful, ie Marjorie Channon with variegated leaves, or Silver Sheen. They are pretty upright, and would keep easily in that size range. They don't have any conspicuous flowers, but they are nice and consistent all year.
