Grub Control

I'm looking for a sustainable pest control method for grubs. Has anyone tried using nematodes?

Two seasons ago I used nematodes and praying mantid eggs an it really, really helped. I've always had a problem with cutworms and grubs and the combination completely resolved the issue where I used them. I forgot last year and i really saw the difference. I'm definitely going to use them both this year.

I know there are different types of nematodes for different insects, but I think the package usually shows which it's targeting.

It brings up a question i had, if you have praying mantids living and helping in the garden, what is ok to spray to give a little extra help without hurting them. For instance at the end of the summer i had this one nasty leaf eating bug that infested my pomegranate, but i wasn't sure if i could spray anything...

Your reply is encouraging. What were the environmental conditions where you were successful? What type of nematodes did you use and where did you purchase them?

The area I'm treating is in Leucadia, near the coast and has sandy soil. There are a couple of small turf areas, but the damage is most evident in the adjacent areas that are planted with Disneyland iceplant and succulents. Large patches of iceplant died and the area is riddled with mole volcanos. We lost one agave that was, unfortunately, between a mole and some grubs.

I purchased the nematodes at Walter Andersens in San Diego, they were in a refrigerator, they had a number of different combinations depending on the insects you were trying to control, if i remember they had some for fleas, cut worms and grubs and it was easy to tell which pack you should buy (i'm sorry i don't remember the name).
I live near the coast in Point Loma, in a mostly clayish soil. I remember it was important to keep the soil moist in order to keep the nematodes alive.
