Hi, I moved from Portland 2 years ago to Rancho Bernardo and find that Salvia guaranticas have a hard time here in the ground. By that I mean, their leaves get a bit brown and crispy around the edges and there is general demise. I know I have DG (decomposed granite) and have amended and mulched etc. I've had to pot them in pots where they do well, but once in the ground, they revert to the leaf damage. We had the soil analyzed and had it amended accordingly---the salt content was 500% of normal! Does anyone in this area, zone 21, grow them well?
I can grow other Salvias pretty well, it seems to affect these the most. Thank you.
