Dicksonia tree fern

Can I keep a Dicksonia tree fern in a pot. I've had it in a pot for years it seems to be doing well, but was thinking I'd do it a favor by pulling in out of the pot and putting in fresh soil. Should I trim the roots too.

Yes you can grow Dicksonia antarctica in containers. They are one of the slower growing tree ferns, in So. Calif. they might get to a 6' trunk or so. Not sure how large yours is currently, but using a large container, like a 'squat fifteen' size should be able to grow to a substatial size. I would think at least 4 or 5 foot trunk in time. Use a good planting mix, something like SunShine, keep an eye out so they don't get dry, especially when it is warm. In Poway they should probably get some shade during the hottest part of the day. Fertilize regularly for larger leaves and deeper green.
