flowers on new plumerias

I had a few plumeria, varieties unknown. They were getting either quite large or very tall; too tall for me to maintain. I cut off branches, following instructions to the letter, and repotted them in 5 gallon pots. I have about 9 plants now and they seemed to do wonderfully this summer with beautiful healthy leaves, but only 2 had a small number of blooms. I fertilized according to instructions too with Super Bloom. I am wondering if blooms are sparse in the first year??? I am hoping that is the case and blooms will be more plentiful next year.I live near the coast in So. Calif.
