crocus and squirrels

Do squirrels both crocus bulbs? I was thinking they did, so I planted mine under a layer of bird netting. But I read now that dear don't eat them, so maybe not squirrels, either? I'd love to pull of the bird netting, which is causing some problems.

I found that rodents and rabbits like to dig up my \"Crocus sativus\" (saffron crocus) bulbs -- so I mulched with crushed, dried chili peppers and spray infrequently with a sulfur spray; for example, a summer dosage of Lily Miller sulfer spray. Rabbits and rodents hate it. Once it rains or snows, you are back to square one so the chili peppers are the longer term solution. By the way, a couple of tablespoons of crushed chili peppers added to your bird feeder every other time or so will keep the same pests away. The birds can't taste it.

The peppers in my beds won't work, because I have a small child, so I'll stick to the bird netting. Thanks for the info!

To ensure no critters...voles, moles, squirrels, chipmucks, etc. eat your bulbs, enclose them in chicken wire with a small enough mesh that they cannot get in. The bulb foliage will grow through it and you save your bulbs. This works for most any bulbs that critters eat. A layer of netting won't stop pests that dig.
