Treating Raw Shredded Tree Clippings for mulch

Treating Raw Shredded Tree Clippings for mulch was created by Mitch
Ok, I got Ed from Evergreen Tree Service to dump a pile of shredded tree in my driveway - I mean my whole driveway! I've been spreading about three inches all over the place for the last four years and it seems to be in a good place where the bottom portion is breaking down nicely and the top portion is nice and thick. It controls the weeds pretty well, and my plants seem to be doing fine, but I'm wondering if I should be adding anything to the mulch pile to help make it better for my garden? I've heard I need to add nitrogen because that gets leached from the soil with new non composted mulch.
What do you think? Any suggestions?
Thanks

Depends on the kind(s) of trees that were shredded. The nitrogen depreciation thing happens with fresh bark of the highly acidic plants; e.g., pines and conifers in general. It's not like you can ask the mulch pile whats in there! Hey, not to worry, the rains that will likely keep coming contain a significant amount of nitrogen and should help. Also, if you really want a protective counter measure: dust it over with about a gallon of real wood ash per cubic yard, or use a granulated potash product (not lime!). If you already spread it out a 2-3 inches thick, thats just shy of 1 cup of real wood ash per square yard.

HMMMMMMMMMMMM "steer stuff in it from the bag or real" Is there such a thing as 'artificial "steer stuff"? Maybe from artificial cows? Is that orgainc? Perhaps they do things different in Oregon. There is a guy in Rose Canyon that has some plywood ones on the east side, maybe those!
Actaully it does not 'leach' from the soil it is sort of 'used up' in the decomposition of the wood. However it is not very much. If you are on a regular feeding program using 'steer stuff' or hopefully something a lot better you should be just fine.
