Mailed trees: Plant immediately? Wait?

I got a couple of trees from Top Tropicals. They recommend waiting a week or two, until the tree \"recovers\", to plant in the ground.

But I'm not good at growing plants in pots. I tend to over and underwater them.. And it seems to me that the sooner they go into the ground, and into good soil, the sooner they'll recover and get growing.

Any thoughts, opinions?

One of the trees is an Annona Kampong Mauve (Sugar Apple)

And the other tree is a a Jackfruit.

Those are awesome looking trees!!! WOW!
Not sure if this'll be much help . . .
I usually try to wait because I think the stress can be substantial and replanting is also very stressful. While I'm waiting (since I tend to anthropomorphise) I talk to it and thank it for taking such a long journey and tell it how happy it'll be here. I put the plant (still in the pot) at the site where it's going to be planted. If it's extremely sunny or hot, I'll shade it a little and/or tape white paper over the black pot to keep it from cooking. I just bought a little olive tree about 5 minutes from home and I'm waiting to plant it - it's already connected to the irrigation system and I just keep an eye on it.

As for growing in pots, the place to check are the holes in the bottom of the pot.

First of all, outdoor potted shrubs and trees should not sit in a tray that keeps the holes submerged in water. You will sufficate the bottom roots and introduce lots of infections bred in the stale water.

Now, if the soil in the top of the pot is drying out, check the holes on the bottom. If the soil there is wet, it is not time to water. If the soil only moist, it is time to water.
