"Ray Hartman" Ceanothus pruned as a tree?

The Ray Hartman Ceanothus is one of the largest-growing variety and I've seen a few pics (Internet) where it's been trimmed as a tree that was about 20' tall.
Does anyone have experience with pruning this into a standard OR multi-trunk? Does it require a lot of tending to keep it that way?

Hi flip@60 - I asked around and did a little research on the internet and found this article which seems to answer your question and it appears the person writing it is from your area. I hope this helps! mother-natures-backyard.blogspot.com/201...ber-ray-hartman.html

May I suggest you create a list of plants you're growing - it's a great way to connect to information. You can see a tutorial here www.themulch.com/articles/user-guides/12...qmy-recommendationsq or another good resource is this article www.themulch.com/home/start-here .

What an amazing article. Thanks so much for finding that ; it is very helpful in understanding ceanothus in general as well as how to prune the Ray Hartman. I've abandoned the Ray Hartman-as-a-specimen-tree idea (although the pics of it 6 months > 6 years show one beautiful tree-shrub) and decided on a Desert Museum, with some Anchor Bay/Point Reyes ceanothus underneath. Should be striking...in about three years...ugh. But at least the maintenance is much simpler and we'll get some vaca time in our retirement!
Great tip, too, about building a plant list on this site. I've been a part of a large Facebook plant exchange group and they have amazing information to share, but once you get into more specific or hard-to-find plants, or landscape designing, the help tends to thin. Looking forward to working with the community at The Mulch.
Thanks again!
