groundcover

I want to plant ground cover in place of a lawn. I'm looking for something that you can walk on, and something that grows fast. I'm in Poway and it get's about 6 hours of sun. Any ideas. Also, I don't want it to die back in the winters. Thanks

I think a lot of people are using Dymondia around your area. It's really a cool looking groundcover. I'm not sure how fast it grows, and if you're replacing a lawn you'll want to make sure the lawn won't grow back while the dymondia (or any groundcover) are coming in.

I agree with Mitch, Dymondia is getting more popular as people get to know it. It is not the fastest growing groundcover, but it is one of the very lowest and works well as a grass lawn replacement. It does not take as much water as many other groundcovers or lawns, BUT YOU MUST BE SURE TO GIVE IT REGULAR IRRIGATIONS WHEN FIRST PLANTED. After it is established (3 months or so) you can slowly reduce the amount of water used. Very low growing, interesting grey-green foliage and small 1/2" yellow blooms. NO MOWING is also a great benifit!
