Is it possible to keep a flowering plum tree in a pot forever. How do you keep it from outgrowing the pot.
I have a diseased Nectarine in my garden, huge tree, if I plant the flowering plum near it will it also get the disease, peach leaf curl?

Some flowering cherry trees can live indefinitely in large pots. Do you know the species or variety of the cherry tree? It would be Prunus, and then the species or variety name. Species that reach 10 to 12 feet can be kept in a pot indefinitely. It is more difficult to keep other species that naturally reach 25 feet or higher in such conditions--although you could still do so. They will not get as tall in a container. In order to keep the flowering cherry in a pot indefinitely, you would need to repot the plant every 3 to 4 years, and when doing so remove 15 to 20 percent of the roots and repot again in the same pot with fresh soil. Flowering cherry trees require well-draining soil, so make sure that the potting soil you use has added pumice or perlite.

In regards to your question about if the flowering plum can also contract peach leaf curl, unfortunately flowering plum trees are susceptible. So it would be best to keep the tree away from the diseased nectarine.

Please let me know if you have more questions.

Yes it is possible. IT grow 15 to 20 feet tall and spread 15 feet, perfect for lanscaping. These trees are easy to grow with minimal care when properly planted. They love a sunny places . There relatively short lifespan of around 10 to 15 years. It is best to plant flowering plum trees in the spring or the fall.
