I have a wisteria covering a patio. It must be almost 40 years old and I think I have killed it. The structure holding it was getting pulled away and last fall I started to pull down all the dead wood from the plant (of which there was a lot)hoping to fix the structure. It has not leafed out this spring at all. Is there any hope.?

I have a lot of wisteria and trim it back most every year to tame it. I have heard that wisteria does NOT like nitrogen, so if this is true, beware feeding it anything you would feed your grass.

If you cut it back out of the sun, it may take a while for the plant to get going again (a friend of mine had a volunteer pop up in her yard, and it took a couple years for it to stretch up to find the sun it needed - now its blooming and crawling). If you really want it to come back, imagine it full and beautiful again, and be patient. In my experience, wisteria is hearty.

Best to you, sincerely.
