Evergreen Privacy Hedge/Fast growing

Hi Everyone!

I am new and DESPERATE!!! I have been pulling my hair out trying to figure out what to plant for a fast growing privacy hedge (not deciduous). Sweet Viburnum was suggested but then after research I find it is way too fast growing and can get to 30 feet.(dont need that much) Cherry Laurel was suggested then after research I find it is invasive and not really recommended very much for that reason. Oleanders get a disease!! Azaelas were recommended but EVERYONE here has Azaelas and I don't like them!

Now what I would like to ask is about the Ligustrums!

I have seen some nice ones briefly at the nursery and was wondering if those are fast growing and is there any particular KIND of Ligustrum that you would recommend?
Do they make good privacy hedges?

I need at least 6 feet height!

I have neighbors who STARE and never even say hello or wave and I am sick of it!!

I am in Tallahassee, Florida, North Panhandle Zone 8B. We cook in the summer and winters are cool but no snow and morning frost once in awhile. The area I need to plant is about 6 hours full sun and then shade from the trees nearby but they will lose their leave in winter then the spot would be full sun all day.

I don't live in your area so I don't know all of the options. But for me, I think "Texas Privit" makes a good hedge. It is evergreen, the foliage is a nice deep green and fairly glossy leaves. It grows pretty rapidly when the weather is even half way warm, it gets very dense and you can't see through it, if it is properly maintained. Can reach 8' to 10' tall usually. Few problems with this plant.

I live in North Central Texas and the privet hedges that I ripped out of my house when I moved in over 20 years ago were deciduous. Privet and Ligustrum are both considered invasive species.

In Texas, Yaupon holly is a native. It is evergreen and the female plants are covered with red berries in the winter. A great resource for finding out if a plant is considered invasive is the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center site. Check out, www.wildflower.org/invasive/ .

I live in Southern California and had the same problem, new home, neighbors...I put in Italian Cyprus. I planted them about 2 1/2 feet apart and they completely filled in within a year. They are evergreen and the only thing not on your list is they got about 15 feet tall, but you can hedge them at any height you like! Good luck...
