Best tips

I've gotten some of my best tips from Loren Nancarrow and two that I've benefitted most from are:
1 Alfalfa horse pellets for roses (grow new canes)
2 Worm castings for whiteflies,several years ago when we were being invaded by whiteflies on hibiscus,rose of sharon, perennial morning glories he advised using worm castings as a mulch (about 1 inch deep, and that took care of that,pronto!

I have come across the best tips by word of mouth. My favorite is the ultimate use for household cinnamon. Whenever you cut a plant, coat the cut in cinnamon. If the cinnamon doesn't stick, you may make a paste by adding oil. Cinnamon is an antibacterial. It prevents diseases, fungi, and other nasty things from attacking your plants through the cut. I have also used it to dry up bacterial brown spot on a phalaenopsis orchid though it is safer to cut the leaf off. Black rot can be stopped by cutting out the affected area 1/2 in. into healthy tissue and coating the cut in cinnamon.

I always use cinnamon on my seedlings to prevent molding. The tomatoes really are protected. I have come to think the best smell in the world is fresh tomato seedlings with a hint of cinnamon! I have not thought of using it outside for fungus. I wonder if it would work on black rot on roses too??
