California sources of sweet potatoes?

California sources of sweet potatoes? was created by RichP
Does anybody know of a source of sweet potatoes that can be shipped to California?
I've grown Vardamen in the past and they were very ornamental and very good -- but I had to sort of smuggle them in..
Does anybody know of a source here? I know that Steve Spangler sells the Okinawan purple sweet potatoes at his Exotica rare fruit nursery in Vista, but I don't know if he sell the other kinds.

"Sweet Potato" can refer to the tubers of some Ipomoea and Dioscorea species, and also the fruits of some Musa. You are asking about Ipomoea?

Yes, I'm asking about Ipomoea. Particularly the variety Vardaman. You know, the good tasting bush type with the purple ornamental leaves.
And if I'm not confused the Okinawan sweet potatoe is also of the Ipomoea species -- however it's leaf is different. It's almost more like a maple leaf.
I think that perhaps Steve Spangler has also sold "Pilipino ube" -- a purple yam (Dioscorea) in the past.
Actually I've never actually tried a true yam. Isn't it a bush instead of a vine and actually a tuber?

PS. And talking about Musa I'm going to have to try to grow some of those again this year! I went to Jon Verdicks talk at the Festival of Fruit, and I think I know how to do it this time.
