The botanical name is Elaeagnus x ebbingei. Sometimes sold as hybrid silverberry.

Several sources describe this plant as 10 to 12 ft evergreen shrub, thornless, fragrant although tiny flowers, and produces 5 lb / plant of excellent quality berries.

I recently found these at One Green World Nursery:
www.onegreenworld.com/
They are listed as Hybrid Silverberry. I ordered 4 one-gallon pots.
:woohoo:

Interesting. I did a quick search and I see that Monrovia nursery (The wholesale nursery) sells a variagated form of Elaeagnus x ebbingei.

"Splendid golden-yellow margins on foliage year-round. Superb hedge or low screen tolerates heat, wind and little maintenance. Silvery flowers are tiny but fragrant; red fall fruit. Evergreen."

So is the "Golden Silverberry" that One Green World sells a Elaeagnus pungens and the "Hybrid Silverberry" a Elaeagnus x ebbingei?

I read on the link www.pfaf.org/leaflets/elaeagns.php that Elaeagnus pungens would be a good pollinator for Elaeagnus x ebbingei.

Richard thank you for the links and the information. I've considered growing Goumis (Elaeagnus multiflora) as a hedge in the past but I've never heard about the other species.
