Veggies and Herbs was created by jonnib
I am thinking of adding a small vegetable garden to my yard as well as some herbs. Can I grow them all in the same area? Do they have different sun requirements? Will the herbs attract or repel insects?:S

Adding a small veggie and herb garden is a great idea.

Can they all grow in the same area? Well, yes -- provided they all like the same environment and some are not too dominating. For example, mint, thyme, and rosemary can each take over an entire bed in a season.

Another consideration -- some plants, like tomatoes are seasonal. It's a bit late to plant them now (mid-August) in most parts of the county. I have just planted some 8-ball squash and bush beans which will last almost till New Years in my area.

Rosemary can be pruned to keep it in check, but mints and thyme are much harder to control. Basil can get large, but pruning will keep it to a reasonable size. Oregano falls in the same category. Cilantro can grow year-round in many neighborhoods. In the near coastal areas, parsley and lettuce will grow after the August heat fades.

These are just a few ideas, email me with your specific location and desires and I can provide more details.
