Strange how things differ in different areas. So. Cal. has dorughts too in July, but ours usually start in late May with the end of the rains, and usually no rain at all until October or November, so we can go 6 months without a drop from the sky. Not many areas are so extreme. We do not get the extreme cold that you experience, no snow at all for the most part, and seldom over 100 degrees, inland vallies can get to 105 though. (occasionly higher) But we do have to water usually two times a week for most food veggies.

Here in our gardens it is time to dead head, cut back plants which have finished blooming and look for hidden veggies. The vegetables best adapted to hiding are zucchini. They put on camouflage early in life, hide under big leaves and dare you to find them :-D.
