General Information

Although most varieties of Red Raspberry grow best in the cooler climate of the Pacific Northwest, Raspberries can be successfully grown in California's Central Valley and surrounding foothills if you choose a heat-resistant variety such as 'Bababerry' or 'Oregon 1030'. These are proven varieties for warm-summer climates that can provide bountiful fall crops of delicious fruits. Although these varieties will tolerate hot summer sun, planting in a spot with some afternoon shade is still a good idea to protect developing fruits from sunburn.
