Fuji Apple
Recent introduction from Japan that quickly became California's favorite apple. Sweet, very crisp and flavorful, excellent keeper. Dull reddish-orange skin, sometimes russeted. Ripe mid-September. Excellent pollenizer for other apple varieties. Chilling requirement apparently less than 600 hours. Self fruitful.
It is good for eating, even better for cooking, & makes the best possible apple juice. They are also fabulous as dried apples; the slices become sweeter when dehydrated. They are harvested late September or October & if correctly stored a right on the cusp of freezing, they will hold their unique sweet-tart flavor for five or six months of sales; Fujis stored longer than that will have fallen off in favor & texture.
