It is a thick stemmed tree with more or less straight pubescent branches and usually red flowers. Natural succulent bonsai tree from Madagscar with thickened roots; slow growing, deciduous, dioecious pachycaul, up to 30 feet tall. It has very small dark red flowers in late winter.
The Operculicarya decaryi is dioecious.
