A deciduous tree that is pyramidal when young and oval, pyramidal when mature. It has generally somewhat pendulous branches at all ages, but main trunk is upright. The larger branches display showy, bright white bark. The bark on the main trunk is white with prominent black vertical fissures making it very showy. The bark does not exfoliate.
