  • Biographical Information
    Grew up in La Mesa, went to Helix High. Studied physics at UCSB College of Creative Studies, Economics at the University of Wageningen (agricultural school) in the Netherlands. Spent a lot of my life in defense and corp America. Have patents in software and genetics. My better half is Lynne and we have 'pumpkin' a sweet australian shepherd. My mom, 92, lives with us and is the commander in chief of the garden. Darn if she doesn't actually know more about it!

    If you don't love it, don't plant it. For me, gardening is all about a simple kind of integrity with one's soul and the miracle of having things grow because you take care of them.

    Basil, God only knows but I can make almost anything, but basil, flourish.

    Haarlemermeer polder in Holland. Tulips and windmills.
  • What individual has influenced your gardening interest the most? How?
    My grandfather. When I was young he would ride his 'popin johnny', a tank tracked John Deere tractor, with me on his lap through his satsuma mandarin and almond groves with the sheep that ate the grass between rows running all over. He loved making thing grow.
