  • Biographical Information
    I was in the Garden Center/Greenhouse business for the last 30 years. The last 12 as the retail manager of the greenhouse. I have Opened my own Shop this Spring. "Patty's Plants" is a Natural and Organic Garden Supply Store in Milton, WI. I also have a free help and advice gardening website where I can answer questions and talk to people about their plants and gardening. My specialities are with houseplants and tropical blooming patio plants,container gardening, herbs and vegetable gardening. I'm an organic gardener and can my own salsa and tomato sauces. I have been married almost 28 years now and have 2 beautiful children that we adopted as infants that are now 18 and 19. I love chatting with people from all over the world who are as enthusiastic about gardening as I am.

  • My 5 favorite plants are
    I love all herbs. Basil,Rosemary,Thyme,Pineapple sage and Anise Hyssops are on the top.
  • Do you have a gardening philosophy you would like to share with other gardeners? What is it?
    There are no real rules. Plant what makes you happy.
  • If you could grow only one plant, what would it be?
    Tomatoes. There's nothing like a home grown tomato.
  • What plant have you tried to grow that has given you the most trouble? Or, what plant would you like to grow and can't, and why?
    Patty's Purple Plum Poppy. It starts to come up every year (3 years now) then it just dies back.
  • What is your favorite time in the garden?
    In the late morning before it gets to hot and again in the early evening hours.
  • What is your favorite color in the garden?
    I don't have one favorite. Purple, orange, hot pink and yellow are at the top.
  • What is your favorite place or activity in the garden?
    I love sitting at the table near the garden and watching the birds and counting all the different kinds of butterflies we have. Especially after I just get done weeding,deadheading and cleaning things up.
  • What is your favorite public or private garden in the world? Why?
    I haven't been to many. I did get to Longwood Gardens,PA. It was awesome. Anderson Gardens in Rockford,Il. is a beautiful Japanese Garden.
  • What individual has influenced your gardening interest the most? How?
    My grandmother was an avid gardener. I would always help her plant and eat everything out of her vegie garden. She taught me how to can my own vegies.
  • Gardening Dilemmas
    Not having enough space. Not being strong enough to do some of the things I want to do with my gardens.
  • What do you dislike most about gardening?
    When I can't be out in it here in WI.
  • What do you like most about gardening?
    Besides how much fun it is to see what you've planted growing. It's calming and relaxing. Plus it keeps me in shape. I will enjoy having more time to work in my gardens for the first time this spring.
