What individual has influenced your gardening interest the most? How?
Gillis Addison, I worked on her estate in Southampton NY from about 16 into my early 20's. She had 10 acres with a 100 tree orchard and I was her apprentice since she liked nothing more then to spend time away from her busy life in Manhattan out in yard. I came to think of gardening as dirt therapy. -
Gardening Dilemmas
My property is a 1/2 acre surrounded by Brazilian Pepper tree, YUCK! Soil is extremely rocky and it takes hours just to dig a hole to plant trees. I can't use a shovel I have to use a pix ax. I have some great mature trees, pines and date palms and they all need work. Did I say I just bought the property in May. Right now it is all I can do to keep up with the yard work I have at present, and this is all about trimming and cleaning up one section of the yard at a time. -
