    the youngest of three, the only girl. I am married; to Bob and soon to celebrate our 24th anniversary. Both of us were married before. together we have four children: Tina and Amy the oldest are girls from my 1st. Ben, from Bob's 1st, and Nate is ours. They range in age from 41, 39, 28 and 21. We live in a small town that i grew up in that sits at the foot of Mt. Shasta, 14,392 ft dormant volcano.

  • What is your favorite gardening outfit or costume?
    old shorts and an old t-shirt
  • What is the one question about gardening you would really like people to ask you?
    I'm asked all the time: "how can you grow what you grow with the deer constantly coming around?
  • And what's the answer?
    Diligence: I use not one or two, but three or four deer deterants to keep the deer away(all at the same time). And they do come anyway, but between me and my dog we have managed to keep the damage to a minimum.
  • Who is your own favorite gardening personality on TV, radio or in print? Why?
    i don't usually watch gardening on TV
  • Do you have a gardening philosophy you would like to share with other gardeners? What is it?
    Don't worry about the landscapers etc. Plant what you want where you want it. It is, after all, your garden.
  • What plant have you tried to grow that has given you the most trouble? Or, what plant would you like to grow and can't, and why?

  • What is your favorite time in the garden?
    In the evening when my husband gets off work, I work in the garden, he pulls up a chair and tells be about his day.

    lavender/purple
  • What is your favorite place or activity in the garden?
    I have a very small flower bed in the corne4r of our yard that has echinaceas, dahlias, and then clematis climbing on the lattice work behind. In early summer, it also has some of the newer daylilies.
  • What is your favorite public or private garden in the world? Why?
    My travels are limited but I have seen a beautiful botanical garden in Huntsville, Al
  • What individual has influenced your gardening interest the most? How?
    My great Aunt Hattie. Though I hated it at the time, she used to drag me to flower shows at the county fair where she always won something. She always knew the names of plans, both common and scientific names. She was amazing.
  • Gardening Dilemmas
    Whether to plant what I really want to plant, or to plant what the deer won't eat. Many times that is two different things.
  • What do you dislike most about gardening?
    Getting to the result: I have many flowerbeds and it is a neverending battle to keep the weeds out as well as the deer.
  • What do you like most about gardening?
    The result: blooming flowers, growing plants, and hopefully few weeds.
