Biographical Information
I am 34 years old and have been consumed by horticulture for about 8 years. I have a small consulting business where I help do-it-yourself homeowners design and maintain their landscapes correctly. I also work at the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Gardens as a horticulturalist in the endangered plant species division. I am currently getting a degree in Landscape Horticulture and became a Master Gardener in 2005.

Quickly my brain comes up with Hellebore, Sequoia Trees (Metasequoia Glyptostroboides), and Jack-in-the-pulpit, get back to this later. -
What is a garden myth you hear frequently which you know is untrue?
It's not a myth but something I unfortunately see practiced all over is piling mulch up around the trunk of trees. THIS KILLS THE TREE OVER TIME! -

Army pants with hiking boots and a shirt with spaghetti straps. -
What is the one question about gardening you would really like people to ask you?
How can I be a sustainable gardener? -

The most important part and hardest thing to learn is to choose the right plants for the spot. This coupled with making and using compost and other organic alternatives can create a sustainable long term ecosystem in your yard. -
Who is your own favorite gardening personality on TV, radio or in print? Why?

Do you have a gardening philosophy you would like to share with other gardeners? What is it?
Sustainable Gardening. My personal practice and teachings involve respecting and building the soil primarily, choosing a plant that suits the site, then maintaining it as environmentally friendly as possible. This involves the making and use of compost, knowledge, experience, organic fertilizers (when needed), proper pruning and maintenance. -
If you could grow only one plant, what would it be?
Hellebore -
What plant have you tried to grow that has given you the most trouble? Or, what plant would you like to grow and can't, and why?
All the sun lovers. There are so many beautiful annuals and perennials that I will never be able to grow in my yard. -

Harvesting compost! -

Watching and listening to the pond. -

The Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Gardens. Because it is a great place for people to learn about the different varieties of plants. -

Gardening Dilemmas
Personally in my yard I live on a hill with all shade and a St. Bernard. I can't imagine how my yard could look if I had different circumstances and more money to invest in it. -

What do you like most about gardening?
Watching the plants change through out the seasons. Harvesting compost is really cool too along with watching a seed go from germination to my plate! -
