  • Biographical Information
    I could not define myself without mentioning gardening and painting. These are my 2 greatest loves. My writing is also important to me. I recently published a children's book that combined gardening, art and writing. The book is Tad's Life in the Lily Pond. I wrote and illustrated this book. It is a story about a little tadpole who can't wait to grow up. The book is laced with water garden infomation and the story teaches children to work together and help each other.   • My 5 favorite plants are
    I love lilacs, the fragrance is wonderful. Bearded iris and tulips are some of my favorites. I love all types of roses, especially the peace rose. Gerber daisy are one of my favorites too. Actually I never net a flower I didn't like.
  • What is a garden myth you hear frequently which you know is untrue?
    You can't have color in a shade garden.
  • And, what is the reality?
    Just look at the color in my shade garden.
  • What is your favorite gardening outfit or costume?
    Old shorts and t-shirt, pretty garden gloves, old sneakers and on super sunny days a pretty, straw hat with a flower tucked in the band.
  • What is the one question about gardening you would really like people to ask you?
    Would you help me plan my garden?

    Yes, absolutely!!
  • Who is your own favorite gardening personality on TV, radio or in print? Why?
    Paul James the Gardener Guy on HGTV is my all time favorite. I just love, love, love him. He still acts like a child and I do that too.
  • Do you have a gardening philosophy you would like to share with other gardeners? What is it?
    Don't be too fussy. Just let things grow.
  • If you could grow only one plant, what would it be?
    A magical plant that would have all the flowers in the world blooming on it.
  • What plant have you tried to grow that has given you the most trouble? Or, what plant would you like to grow and can't, and why?
    Reblooming iris that bloom beautifully in the Spring, but still haven't rebloomed in the Fall like they are suppose to do.
  • What is your favorite time in the garden?
    I especially love the garden in the morning before the dew melts away. I love to be in the garden anytime I can.
  • What is your favorite color in the garden?
    Purple is my favorite in the garden and in my home.
  • What is your favorite public or private garden in the world? Why?
    So many to pick from, of course my favorite is my own garden. Some of my other favorite gardens are Longwood Gardens, PA; Chanticleer Gardens, PA; the tuplip gardens in Holland, MI; and the gardens around Niagara Falls.
  • What individual has influenced your gardening interest the most? How?
    Actually my mom influenced me to garden because she never did. All the neighbors had pretty flowers and we didn't. Whenever I had enought money saved I would buy packets of seeds and put them in front of the shrubs in front of the house. The flower would grow and bloom and I would love them. I don't know if my mom ever knew I did that.
  • Gardening Dilemmas
    My only dilemmas is that I can't spend all my waking hours in my garden.
  • What do you dislike most about gardening?
    I don't like when all the leaves decide to fall at once and I have to rake them.
  • What do you like most about gardening?
    I love seeing how the garden changes from day to day. I try to walk through my gardens everyday. I'm amazed how things change when I miss a day or two. I love waiting for Spring and seeing everything coming back to life.
