Who is your own favorite gardening personality on TV, radio or in print? Why?
P. Allen Smith is terrific and so is Roger Cook from This Old House. -
What is your favorite time in the garden?
I love Saturday and Sunday mornings. I also love weeknights when I get home from work, but I have to cover myself with mosquito repellent! -
What is your favorite color in the garden?
Right now I love orange and blue together. Like hydrangea and orange daylilies side by side. -
What is your favorite place or activity in the garden?
I love my gardening shed--everything I need to transplant, fertilize, etc. is all in one spot. I love sitting on my back deck looking at the rhodedendrons, daffodils, and vinca that create the border between the lawn and the woods. -
What is your favorite public or private garden in the world? Why?
I love Boston's Public Garden in spring when the trees are flowering and the tulips are out. -
What individual has influenced your gardening interest the most? How?
My mother. My mother has always had beautiful gardens and works hard to keep them that way. Her mother ws also an avid gardener, as is my grandmother-in-law. -
Gardening Dilemmas
The deer ate anything that wasn't covered with snow this winter. The euonymous looks awful, and the rhododendrons have a big band of chewed branches. Even the yews look terrible! -
What do you dislike most about gardening?
Weeding! Mosquitos! Shrub-eating deer! -
What do you like most about gardening?
I love digging in the dirt and getting dirty. I love plants that have a history (e.g., from a friend or relative's garden). I love walking around the yard an admiring the beautiful plants and clowers. -
