Water Conservation Poster Contest

WHO: 1st through 6th graders

WHAT: Create a poster

WHEN: Entries due March 27, 2013

WHERE: Any student in the cities of San Diego, Coronado, and Imperial Beach

WHY: Water is one of our most precious resources and how we use it affects San Diego's sustainability. Helping children become stewards of water is essential. Lessons can highlight facts like: a leaky faucet could waste 100 gallons of water a day and those purple sprinkler heads at city parks use recycled water.

THEME: We are asking your students to fill in the blank: ________ wastes no water. Example: My family wastes no water. Then, draw a picture of how they waste no water.

Important Dates

Entries Due: March 27, 2013
Voting: mid-April
Winners Announced: May 7, 2013
City Council Presentation: May 7, 2013

Recognition

A certificate of participation will be given to every student who creates a poster.Prizes will be awarded at a San Diego City Council presentation in May 2013. Winning posters will be featured in the 2014 Water Conservation Poster Calendar. Winning posters will also be on display throughout San Diego, including:
* City Administration Building – Lobby: May 2013
* San Diego Watercolor Society Gallery: June 2013
* San Diego County Fair – Kids’ Best Art Exhibit: June 2013

Prizes

Gift cards will be given for each grade level for 1st Place, 2nd Place, & 3rd Place. An Overall Winner for the Recycled Water Category will also win a gift card.
