  • What is a garden myth you hear frequently which you know is untrue?
    I've heard no myths.

  • What is your favorite gardening outfit or costume?
    Whatever I happen to be wearing which is likely to be jeans in winter, shorts in summer.
  • What is the one question about gardening you would really like people to ask you?
    Don't know that I've attained the degree of proficiency in gardening to be asked any questions!
  • And what's the answer?
    I have only questions.
  • Who is your own favorite gardening personality on TV, radio or in print? Why?
    The Garden Compass trio are wonderful. Their gardening knowledge is limitless and awesome. And they're charming people and just as lovely in person as they are pleasant in their broadcasts.
  • Do you have a gardening philosophy you would like to share with other gardeners? What is it?
    Never give up on a plant. Keep tending and nurturing and your patience sometimes pays off.
  • If you could grow only one plant, what would it be?
    That's a very limiting proposition and I'd have to give it way more consideration than I can allow at this point.
  • What plant have you tried to grow that has given you the most trouble? Or, what plant would you like to grow and can't, and why?
    I've had limited success with some seeds, e.g., painted daisy, zinnia, lavatera trimestris, to name a few. The trouble may be with my rocky, clay soil. Also planted 6-8 ranunculus bulbs several months ago and only got two pathetic looking plants.
  • What is your favorite time in the garden?
    Early, early morning.
  • What is your favorite color in the garden?
    No preference - like all the colors.
  • What is your favorite place or activity in the garden?
    Don't know that I'd call it a favorite, but I like to pull certain weeds that I find noxious and it pleases me to rid my yard of them.
  • What is your favorite public or private garden in the world? Why?
    Longwood Gardens in Pennsylvania was a nice experience because it's a beautiful estate, so that what was once private is now public. It has an extensive variety of plantings amidst its rolling hills. There are many beautiful private gardens in Coronado and the plants look more vibrant there.
  • What individual has influenced your gardening interest the most? How?
    No one person comes to mind - I gather information where I can find it.
  • What do you dislike most about gardening?
    Not much that comes to mind.
  • What do you like most about gardening?
    The constant discovery of new plants, new techniques and, in the last couple of years, starting seeds and all that that endeavor entails. And I find gardeners to be an engaging and interesting group of people. Mostly I like that you never have it all wired, that there is always something to learn.
