Learn about the benefits of well-selected trees and the challenges to their survival in our general area. Considerations will range from California forests and civic plantings to your own back yard. Among the phenomena under consideration are our changing climate, recurrent drought conditions, choosing the right location for maximum advantages, and coping with invasive pests and problems with aging trees. There will be time for the audience to participate with questions and a tour to sample the variety of trees, including natives, that are succeeding in the Water Conservation Garden.
Refreshments at 5pm, panel starts at 5:30pm, followed by a tree tour of The Garden.

Our Panelists are:
Leah Rottke: Faculty Member in the Department of Ornamental Horticulture, Cuyamaca College and has served as Area Forester for San Diego Gas & Electric Co., Consultant for Western Environmental Consultants, Inc; and Volunteer Arborist for Fruit Tree Planting Foundation
Ron Matranga: In the tree care industry with Atlas Tree since 1983. Certified Arborist the first Board-Certified Master Arborist in San Diego. He is a Registered Consulting Arborist, Tree Risk Assessment Qualified, and helps a wide range of clients as a consultant and expert witness. Ron was the proud recipient of the Bob Bichowsky Memorial Service Award in 2016. Ron is a recognized speaker on tree care topics and has spoken to Master Gardeners, horticulture clubs, municipal agencies, nursery professionals, and landscape contractors.
Paul Redeker: Director of Horticulture and Exhibits at the Water Conservation Garden, will lead a tour of the trees in The Garden.
