  • Gardening Background

  • Biographical Information
I grew up in the Pacific Northwest, home of my heart. In 2000 my husband and I moved to Colorado and have stayed to raise a family. I am the author of Sacred Land, Voices of the Earth, Zen and the Art of Raising Chickens, Living Earth Devotional, Zen and the Path of Mindful Parenting, and the forthcoming Mindful Thoughts for Gardeners. I garden with permaculture techniques, and by working with the spirit of the land to cocreate dynamic plants, soil, and soul. I teach part time and homeschool my two children.

  • What is a garden myth you hear frequently which you know is untrue?
That soil needs to be dug every year.

Soil should be built from the top with mulch, leaves, and compost, and aerated gently with a broadfork or pitchfork. It's all about farming soil microbes, worms, and nutrients.
