If there’s anything more enjoyable than spending time in my garden, it’s spending time visiting someone else’s. Whether it’s a casual stroll through a public garden or a guided tour through a private landscape, I always come away refreshed and inspired. It’s like falling in love all over again. |

|
Sometimes, I just want to spend time in the gardens to bask in the beauty. Other times, I’m actively looking for ideas to copy in my own landscape. That’s one of the great things about gardening: It’s OK to plagiarize. Make it a goal to visit one garden this year — you won’t be disappointed. |

 Beans are one of the easiest crops to grow in a home garden. Plant a bean seed, and it will almost certainly grow and produce a generous crop with little effort on the part of the gardener. However, if you want the biggest and best harvest possible, there are a few things you should know. Most important: understand the difference between pole beans and bush beans. |

| Many popular varieties are available in both forms; for example, there are both pole and bush varieties of Blue Lake beans. The beans themselves taste similar; just the growth habit varies. |

 When evening falls and it’s too dark to weed, deadhead or start a new project, it’s time to turn off your busy mind and turn on your senses. The garden becomes a whole new place after dark, filled with mysterious sounds, fragrances and luminous colors. |

| There are lots of easy ways to make your garden a more compelling destination in the magical light of evening. Incorporating just a few of them will keep you outdoors as long as possible, and hopefully add a whole new dimension of enjoyment. |

When it comes to annuals, gardeners can get a little snooty. Some disdain any plant that’s not a perennial. But, the fact is that annuals provide some of the best nonstop color in a garden. Sure, they only last one season, but they bloom more than any perennial ever could. |
|
|
|
 Perhaps the annual that receives the most disrespect is the marigold. I know it’s common and the foliage is a little stinky. But marigolds sure do bloom reliably and they’re rarely bothered by pests. And some of us like that smell. |
|
|
|
How about a challenge? A few folks here at Gardener’s Supply are going to design some awesome planters with marigolds. We’ll post photos of what we plant. What would you do? |
