Bring on the Bulbs
You can plant spring-flowering bulbs until the ground freezes! Pick up some of these spring beauties now.

Daffodils

Daffodils will come back year after year, spreading and clumping (which is called "naturalizing") in the garden. For the most part, deer leave daffodils alone, which makes them a perfect choice if you have deer problems.

As with tulips, there are early, mid and late blooming daffodils. Select a wide variety of bulb types, and you can enjoy three months of daffodils in the garden. A popular choice from Nature Hills is the "100 Days of Daffodils" collection pictured at left. We've done the hard work of selecting for you!

Tulips

Tulips are the most flashy and colorful bulbs for the garden. Hybrid tulips last only one year, reliably, but their spectacular display is worth it. Species tulips will generally come back from year to year.

Tulips are tasty snacks for deer, so plan ahead and plant them in a buried chicken wire cage if you have deer issues.

There are early, mid and late-blooming tulips. Choose your selection carefully and you can enjoy six weeks or more of color.

Allium

Allium, also called "ornamental onion" is the latest blooming of the spring bulbs. Allium bulbs bloom after the last daffodil has faded but before many of the summer perennials have started to shine.

Plant allium bulbs in and around your flower garden, including among perennial beds. They will provide a striking bit of interest before the rest of the garden revs up. Another bonus is that deer don't find allium to be particularly tasty!

Crocus

Crocus

Crocus are small, short flower bulbs that look best when planted in groups of at least five or more. Tuck these bulbs into the lawn, and enjoy a naturalized effect.

Crocus can bloom for three weeks or more, making them one of the longer-lasting spring garden bulbs.

Hyacinth

Hyacinth

Hyacinths bloom in mid-spring with highly fragrant flowers. Because of their scent, hyacinths are largely deer-resistant, making them a great choice for homeowners and gardeners with a large and hungry deer population.

Plant hyacinths in groups of five or more for the biggest impact.
