SD is a very harsh environment. Some years we can be a zone 5 climate then others we can barely make zone 4.
There is never enough rain in the summer or enough snow protection in the winter.

I love to pull weeds. I love to watch the fruit blossoms open. I love to monitor the growth of plants each day in early summer.

I couldn't choose.
I have trouble with roses. I have one rose bush that has lived for years. Others I get die after the first year. I have not yet determined if it a soil issue or what but they do not like me.
Shorts and tank top. I have a pair of sandals that I got a rummage sale 8 years ago for a quarter. They are my gardening shoes.
Let volunteers grow where they land. Chaos in a garden is just as interesting as designed placement.

I rarely water my summer vegetable garden. Plants in SD are used to drought. I have grown tomato plants 8 feet tall with no watering and no rain for 6 weeks. Sometimes you have to let the plants adapt to their environment.
