Plant in a well-draining soil in a sunny to part-shade location.

Remove and destroy snails and slugs.

Transplant

Transplant when new roots are starting to form, which usually happens around now. Dig around base of plant to check if this is occurring. Wait if necessary.

Propagate

Divide iris when the plant becomes overcrowded. Dig up the plant, including the roots, cut stalks (fans) apart with a knife and trim the foliage. Soak in water for an hour before replanting.
