What do you like most about gardening?: I like going out and noticing new growth on my plants. I enjoy listening to my garden as it grows and tells me where plants want to move to be happier and show off better.
What do you dislike most about gardening?: Lawns - I don't care much for lawns.
What individual has influenced your gardening interest the most? How?: My grandfather - he spent hours every day in our yards when I was a kid.
What is your favorite place or activity in the garden?: I like to see the wild life my plants attract, from the benificial wasps and spiders to the birds and birds, especially the 'hummers'.
What is your favorite time in the garden?: 24/7
But sunrise and sunset are especially nice.
What is your favorite public or private garden in the world? Why?: When I was stationed in Japan, I felt most at peace with the natural topography of the island. The hills and coasts were a vertual canvass.
What is your favorite color in the garden?: Blue
If you could grow only one plant, what would it be?: Hibiscus.
What plant have you tried to grow that has given you the most trouble? Or, what plant would you like to grow and can't, and why?: I can't get some of my dendrobiums to bloom or thrive very well. I don't get direct sun for six months, but I would think they would bloom in the six months I do get sun. I'm still trying.
What is your favorite gardening outfit or costume?: What? LOL
What ever I can get dirty. :-)
Do you have a gardening philosophy you would like to share with other gardeners? What is it?: Never give up. Keep on trying. It's all more simple than you think. Plants mostly take care of themselves. Just add good soil, water when necessary and give them room to grow.
Who is your own favorite gardening personality on TV, radio or in print? Why?: The guy from 'Gardening by the yard'. Paul?
What is the one question about gardening you would really like people to ask you?: Do I need a lot of space or a big yard to have a nice garden?
And what's the answer?: No -- As a matter of fact, 99% of my plants are in pots. You can have as many plants as your space or you allow.
What is a garden myth you hear frequently which you know is untrue?: Ficus plants seem to suffer in pots because people think they don't have to water them, since they are drought tolerant.
And, what is the reality?: Please water your Ficuses if they are in pots. The root system is not designed to be efficient in pots. They need your help to thrive in those pots.
What is your Garden Test Score?: 21-27 Excellent
